Dad with his 467th AAA

Battery A Unit #4 Brothers in Arms

I always wanted to better capture the 1994 trip experience and the thoughts related to accompanying my father back to Europe and to the Normandy beaches where he landed on in 1944. Hoping this series of blogs can serve that purpose although they are written 15 plus years after the trip.  First off, I must apologize for my own reasons its taken too long to write some of this down and hopefully I finish most of what I want to capture in the next few months. But on the bright side, what has been good about having waited this long to record our trip activities is that some of the facts and location information about the 467th AAA become has become more available to me on the Internet and has also been additionally validated through multiple sources.

This series of articles is more about my experience with my brother and father on the trip so if you are perhaps interested in more of the 467th AAA details please see my publicly available google maps and tours of their entire deployment referenced in the first few intro pages. Also, if some of the stories seem unfinished its a work in progress while I gather photos and double-check stories and reedit the narrative.

There are many people that made our trip possible first and foremost my Dad, William J. Macker, who asked us to go with him, an incredible honor that I am forever grateful for, and my mother who supported this very strongly. My brother John as our traveling partner who did so much of the planning and pursued the trip with great ideas, excitement, and vigor. Our other five siblings who were strongly supportive always and kept Dad interested in pursuing the trip whenever it was mentioned. We constantly missed having all of them with us on the trip and hopefully these small stories help share some of the experience.
